The TILA is a law which was mainly for the protection of the consumers in transactions of credit. It was formulated in the year of 1968. The main aim of the TILA was the promotion of the informed use of the consumer credit, which requires the disclosures being about the terms, and the cost for the purpose of standardizing the way in which the costs related with the borrowing are disclosed and calculated.


The truth in lending act also provides the consumers with the right of canceling particular credit transactions which involve the lien on the principal dwelling of a customer. It also regulates certain practices of the credit card and thus providing fair and resolution that is timely during disputes in credit billing. The truth in lending act has an exception in the case of certain mortgage loans which involve high costs. Other than these, the TILA does not involve in the regulation of charges which are imposed for the consumer credit. It rather needs a standardized or a uniform disclosure of the charges and the costs to facilitate the consumers to shop. It also poses limitations on plans of home equity which are subjected to the needs of a particular section.
It is also notable the prohibition of certain practices or certain acts which are connected to the credit that is secured by the principal dwelling of a consumer. There are several appendices of this act which holds data such as the methods and ways to determine about state laws, staff interpretation issuance, or the various special rules imposed for credit plans of a certain nature, model disclosures etc.
